Three reasons to stay longer at Tenang Saja
It’s a long drive to get there. Yes, and you go through some of the most spectacular places in Bali on the way. Bedugul’s Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, the misty vistas of Munduk, and the iconic “insta spot” at the golf club. It’s actually only 90 kilometers from the airport, but the road is steep and winding in places. Getting to special places requires effort.
There aren’t any shops or restaurants nearby. Yes, and that means you are truly in the “real Bali”. For example, nearby Seririt, population 100,000 doesn’t have a single tourist-oriented business. What it does have is a thriving local market, authentic crafts, and real people going about their rural tasks. The property is in a village and you will be able to watch people harvesting mangos, durian, and cutting grass to feed their cow. Mind you, you’ll also meet their chickens and beloved pet roosters!
It’s not at the beach. Yes, and because it is in the hills, it gets cooling breezes and doesn’t have any mosquitoes! Plus, you have a sea view! The coast is only a 10-minute drive and once on the coast you can go right to Lovina with its shops, restaurants and swimming with the dolphins, or go left toward snorkeling in Pemuteran and Menjangan Island. Or just stay home and “Take it Easy” by the pool!
Who are we?
Mostly, international school teachers, approaching retirement age. As global nomads, we wanted to create a supportive community, an ideal peaceful retreat, for ourselves, our guests, and you. We’ve all lived overseas for decades and so know some of the things we wanted to avoid. For example, all the stairs are the same height, the tiles are non-slip, and there are enough outlets (and some even take any shape plug). In addition, we pay attention to small details like providing three-ply toilet paper, filling ice-cube trays before you arrive, providing firm mattresses, and fans, as well as air conditioning. We hope this expat-savvy attention will make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
Take It Easy
The names of the villas are an inside joke. When we are here, we plan to enjoy the wonderful options that exist in the area: snorkeling, hiking, and visiting Buddhist and Hindu ceremonies. Yet we often are so happy relaxing by the pool and observing the village life around us that we procrastinate. The property name Tenang Saja means Take it Easy, and the villa names reflect this! Villa Nanti means Later. Villa Mungkin means Maybe. Villa Suatu Hari means One Day…

Location and Logistics
Tanang Saja is in Northern Bali, in the village of Pegentengan,10 mins from the coast, between the towns of Seririt and Lovina. It is in a rural, hilly area, a beautiful, but occasionally hair-raising, three-hour drive from the international airport. A new international airport is scheduled to open in 2027, so this is the opportunity to see the area before it changes.
Lovina is a 30-minute drive from the property and has the nearest expat-oriented dining and shopping options. Because of the distance, your villa will be stocked with basic food items (bread, eggs, butter, jam, fruit, drinking water) on your arrival, and our staff are happy to do a grocery run for locally available items you request or direct you to the Pepito Supermarket in Lovina so you can stock up on imported items.
STAFF
Komang and Nengha live on the property and will be available to help you during their working hours (9 am-5 pm). In an emergency, they can, of course, help 24/7.
Nengah cleans the villas and can arrange for laundry, shopping, or help resolve any issues that come up. Our trees and our neighbor’s generosity provide us with lots of fresh fruit (mango, banana, grapes, pomelo, durian, etc) that she will be happy to prepare for you. Her English is improving daily!
Komang is in charge of the pool and gardening, but also does the driving. We do not have a car available to guests unless you ask us to arrange a rental. In that case, Komang can do the driving. “Ketut will be joining the team in July 2026”
